Dr. Sauer specializes in cataract surgery as well as the medical, surgical and laser treatment of glaucoma. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at Duke University, completed his internship at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, and his residency training in ophthalmology at the world renowned (Jules) Stein Eye Institute at the University of California Los Angeles.

In addition, he has completed research fellowships at the National Eye Institute and the National Institutes of Health – Fogarty International Center.  He earned a masters in public health at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and was selected as an Al Sommer Scholar. After finishing his residency, Dr. Sauer completed fellowship training in glaucoma and advanced cataract surgery at Tufts New England Eye Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston.

Dr. Sauer is commited to providing the best care possible for his patients and is experienced in both traditional and newer techniques for the treatment of glaucoma. He has authored numerous research articles in prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals and has presented his work nationally and internationally. He has also participated in a number of global service and public health projects, including teaching ophthalmology residents in the Dominican Republic, assisting in eye surgeries in the Peruvian Amazon and testing for vitamin A deficiency (night blindness) in Bangladesh.

Dr. Sauer grew up in Duxbury, MA.  He is fluent in Spanish and enjoys travel and spending time with his family.
